TRAVEL ADVICE FROM AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
Universal Accessibility - South African Data Base
TROUBLE FREE HOLIDAY!
Welcome to this website for the discerning traveller with a wheelchair or special needs regarding
facilities and accommodation for people with physical challenges.
Every establishment on this website has been personally evaluated by an Occupational Therapist and spinal rehabilitation specialist with 33 years experience to ensure that you have the correct and necessary information at hand. Photographs of the bathroom are supplied for your convenience.
Please note that we do not evaluate or grade the establishments according to a specific standard.
We provide the photographs and reliable information to assist you in making an informed decision.
It is not practical to do grading at this time because there are so many interpretations of the word “wheelchair-friendly”
in the tourism industry as well as a shortage of accessible accommodation in South Africa.
Click on a province to view evaluated accommodation within that province.
We have accommodation listed in Western, Northen and Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, North West and the Free State.
Many establishments advertise themselves as being wheelchair-friendly accommodation, but might not be suitable for your particular needs. Our research have shown that only 22,7% is wheelchair accessible to a reasonable degree. Our trustworthy advice will ensure your choice of the best accommodation to suit your special needs. Have a whale of a time wherever you go!
We are also gathering information regarding wheelchair-friendly tourist attractions and restaurants. Please send us your contributions.
